If you drive a diesel car or truck, you don’t need to look any further than Trojan Auto Care for your vehicle maintenance and repairs. We work on all vehicle types, including diesel vehicles, and we have vast experience in fixing the following common diesel engine problems.
Starting Difficulties
A diesel engine isn’t going to fire up as quickly as a gasoline engine does, but you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting your diesel started. If you are having starting difficulties, bring your vehicle in for maintenance, as this is likely all it needs.
Power Loss
If your diesel engine is losing power, it’s likely a problem in the fuel system. The issue could be clogged fuel filters or injectors, excessive engine lubrication that is interfering with the fuel, or a loose throttle linkage. Any of these things can affect your vehicle’s get up and go.
Fuel Contamination
Contaminated fuel can also create problems with your diesel engine generating power and, we hate to say it, but diesel fuel gets more contaminated than gasoline does. The reason why is that it is thicker and hangs on to the contaminants more.
Exhaust Problems
Your diesel engine is going to release a little bit of black exhaust but it should not be excessive. If it is, you may have too much gasoline in the engine because of leaking fuel injectors or a broken injector pump. You may also have a problem with the turbocharger.
Oxidized Oil
Oil oxidation happens most commonly in diesel engines that haven’t been driven in a long time. Oxidation means that air bubbles have made their way into the motor oil and this can cause engine damage if you drive the diesel automobile without changing the oil.
Noise, Noise, Noise
Your diesel engine should not be overly noisy. If it is, it needs to be inspected to find out what is going on. A diesel engine will be louder than a gasoline engine, but it shouldn’t be so loud that it is obnoxious. Bring your diesel automobile into our shop if it is too loud.
Wrong Oil Weight
Finally, those who don’t know any better may put the wrong oil weight in the diesel engine and this can cause engine damage. It’s important to use the oil type and weight that is recommended for your specific diesel make and model. Otherwise, there will be problems.
