How Do I Maximize My Car’s Fuel Economy?

Saving money is always wise, whether you need to or not. Trojan Auto Care is going to list some suggestions that will help maximize your car’s fuel economy. Why not save money at the service station, as well, by getting more miles out of each gallon of gasoline or diesel fuel? It’s not as hard as it might seem. You just need to drive in such a way that you aren’t burning excess gas.

One Trip Only

If you have a day filled with errands, consolidate them into one trip and make sure to maximize conveniences such as shopping centers that have multiple stops in them. It saves you gasoline to park your car and walk to your various stops rather than driving from place to place. Make sure to consolidate as much as possible to keep your vehicle off the road.

Slow Down

You probably already know this but slowing down can improve your gas mileage. According to AAA, fuel economy is at its best at 50 miles per hour. You may not want to drive this slowly on a highway that has a higher speed limit, but if you stick to the speed limit instead of flying, you will save more gasoline.

Take it Easy

You will also save more gasoline if you take it easy on your automobile. In other words, don’t shoot from a stop position with the pedal to the metal, and don’t slam on the brakes when you need to stop. Fast acceleration burns excess gas. Accelerate slowly and allow your vehicle to shift gears efficiently.

Turn Off the Engine

Instead of sitting at an idle for an extended period of time, turn off your engine. You use more gasoline sitting there and idling than you do to start your engine up when it’s time to go. It’s also better for the environment if you don’t idle constantly and release excess emissions into the air.

Anticipate Conditions

Anticipating conditions is an excellent way to save money on gasoline. If you work at a job with flexible hours and have the option to avoid daily traffic, do so to save gas. If you are driving on city streets and you can time your speed so that you hit each traffic signal on the green, do so, again, to save gas.

Use Cruise Control

Using your cruise control will also help you save gasoline. Driving at a consistent speed uses less gas than driving at an inconsistent speed. No matter how steady your foot is on the accelerator, you cannot drive as consistently as you can when the cruise control is set.

Drive to Warm Up

Finally, drive slowly to warm up your automobile rather than leaving it sitting in your driveway idling. This saves gasoline in the end.
